Northwest Notes Spring 2015Spring is here, and it’s early! Use your free weekends to experience this beautiful season in the Pacific Northwest.

GO NOW: Don’t miss the peak bloom at tulip festivals around the Pacific Northwest. The largest is the Skagit Tulip Festival, which runs April 1-30, 2015. Monitor the blooms by taking a peak at the #skagittulipfestival in Instagram.

SAVE TIME: Did you know you can now reserve a spot on the ferry to the San Juan Islands this summer? Washington State Ferries launched the reservation system in January, and it will help take the hassle out of your summer island trip.

FOLLOW US: By the way, if you’re on Instagram be sure to follow us for great Northwest trips.

GO TO CANADA: Got a passport? Great! This is a fantastic time to squeeze in some trips to British Columbia because your US dollars will go farther than they have in years. As of this writing, the exchange rate is $1 US Dollar = $1.25 Canadian Dollar. (check today’s rate here). Don’t know where to go? Try Salt Spring Island, Tofino, Sechelt, or Nanaimo.

HIT THE ROAD: Many mountain roads are opening early this spring, just in time for a spring break road trip! Here are recent openings as of April 3: At Mt. Rainier, Chinook Pass and Cayuse Pass are already open. The North Cascades Highway is open.

FIND YOUR PARK: What’s your favorite national park?  Is it the mossy rain forest in Olympic National Park, or the clear blue waters of Crater Lake? The National Park Service wants to hear your park stories, and they’ve launched a new campaign called Find Your Park to gather and share them. To share your national park visits on social media, use the hashtag ‪#‎FindYourPark‬.
