EAT: Portland’s Little Bird

Bistro Petit Oiseau

Portland’s Bistro Petit Oiseau (Little Bird in french) has earned a plethora of raves, including the Oregonian’s restaurant of the year. The bistro, sister to chef Gabe Rucker’s LePigeon, prides itself on great wine and apertif cocktails, creative food and excellent service. And best of all, it is right downtown near all of Portland’s boutique hotels.

Order some small plates if you want to sample a bunch of different, delicious menu items. We loved steak tartare, Dungeness crab cakes and escargot on the appetizer menu. As for entrees, the buttermilk southern-fried trout is a showstopper. And save rooms for the hazelnut-milk chocolate financier for dessert – it’s amazing.

The space is cozy and intimate, though dramatic mirrors, red leather booths, a dining balcony and the high, pressed-tin ceiling gives it an airy, distinctly Parisan feel.
